Things to do in Abu Dhabi
Our picks, with what each one costs and how long it takes.
Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque
Eighty-two white marble domes and the world's largest hand-knotted carpet. Free to enter, dress code strictly enforced, and abayas lent at the door. Best at dusk.
Check tickets & tours →Louvre Abu Dhabi
Jean Nouvel's perforated dome creates a 'rain of light' over galleries tracing world art chronologically rather than by region. Two hours minimum; go late afternoon.

₹6,500 · full day
Ferrari World
Home to Formula Rossa, the world's fastest roller coaster at 240 km/h. Indoor, so it works in summer heat when everything else is unbearable.
Check tickets & tours →Qasr Al Watan
A working presidential palace opened to visitors, with a vast domed great hall and a library of rare manuscripts. The evening light show projects onto the facade.

Paddling the Eastern Mangroves channels among herons and, at dusk, occasional flamingos — a genuinely quiet corner of the city. Guided tours only.

🚌 Transportation
Public buses are cheap but sparse for tourists; most visiting is done by taxi, which is metered and inexpensive by Gulf standards. Careem and Uber both operate. Abu Dhabi and Dubai are 90 minutes apart by road, with frequent intercity buses for around ₹600 — many travellers combine both cities on the single UAE visa. Renting a car is easy and roads are excellent.
🍽️ Best Restaurants
Emirati food is worth trying at Al Fanar or Mezlai — machboos, harees, luqaimat. Indian and Pakistani restaurants in the Tourist Club and Hamdan areas serve full meals for ₹300–₹600. Alcohol is restricted to licensed hotel venues, and Abu Dhabi is somewhat stricter about this than Dubai.
🏨 Best Hotels
Corniche for city views and walkability, Saadiyat for beach resorts and the museums, Yas for families doing the theme parks, and the Tourist Club area for budget hotels near cheap food.
🛡️ Safety & Travel Tips
Extremely safe, with the same legal cautions as Dubai: no public affection, no drinking outside licensed venues, zero tolerance on drugs including certain prescription painkillers. Abu Dhabi enforces dress codes at the Grand Mosque strictly — women need to cover hair, arms and ankles; abayas are lent free at the entrance. Summer heat exceeds 45°C and outdoor plans are unrealistic from June to September.
