🚌 Transportation
The Metro is clean, cheap and driverless — buy a Nol card at any station. It covers most tourist sights but not the desert or Palm interior. Careem and Uber are reliable; taxis are metered and honest. Walking is unpleasant from June to September — plan indoor movement. Buy a tourist SIM at the airport; WhatsApp voice calls are blocked on UAE networks.
🍽️ Best Restaurants
Indian food is everywhere and excellent, often cheaper than at home — Ravi in Satwa and the Karama restaurants are institutions. A shawarma costs ₹15–₹25; a mall meal ₹600–₹1,200; fine dining without limit. Alcohol is served only in hotel-licensed venues and is heavily taxed. During Ramadan, eating in public during daylight is restricted.

🛡️ Safety & Travel Tips
One of the safest cities in the world — violent crime is essentially absent and you can walk anywhere at night. The real risks are legal, not physical: public displays of affection, swearing, rude gestures, drinking outside licensed venues, and possession of even trace amounts of drugs or certain prescription medicines (codeine, tramadol) carry serious penalties. Photographing people, especially women, without consent is an offence.
