🚌 Transportation
Trains are the point of a European trip: city centre to city centre, no airport queues. Book 4–8 weeks ahead for the cheapest fares — the same Paris–Amsterdam seat can cost ₹2,500 or ₹12,000 depending on when you buy. A Eurail pass only pays off with many long journeys; for two or three cities, point-to-point tickets are cheaper. City transport runs on day passes. Budget airlines charge heavily for cabin bags.
🍽️ Best Restaurants
Eating out is the biggest daily cost: a casual meal is ₹1,200–₹2,500 a head, coffee and pastry ₹400. Supermarket lunches, bakery sandwiches and hotel breakfasts are how most travellers keep the budget sane. Indian restaurants exist in every major city if you need familiar food. Tap water is safe and free — ask for it rather than buying bottled.
🏨 Best Hotels
Stay near a metro or train station rather than the exact centre — 15 minutes out can halve the price. Paris: 11th or 12th arrondissement. Amsterdam: De Pijp or Oost. Switzerland is unavoidably expensive; consider staying in Interlaken and doing day trips rather than moving hotels.
🛡️ Safety & Travel Tips
Violent crime is rare but pickpocketing is a genuine, organised problem — Paris metro, Rome buses, Barcelona's Ramblas and Amsterdam Centraal are the known hotspots. Use a zipped bag worn in front and never keep a phone in a back pocket. Common scams: the friendship bracelet, the fake petition, the dropped ring. Keep passport copies separate; Schengen rules require you to carry ID.
