A fourteenth-century church alone on a ridge at 2,170 metres beneath Mount Kazbek. A 4x4 takes you up in twenty minutes; walking takes ninety and is the better memory.

🚌 Transportation
Marshrutka minivans link every town cheaply but run to no fixed timetable. For Kazbegi and Kakheti, hiring a car with driver (₹5,000–₹7,000 a day) is far more practical and lets you stop for views. Bolt is the ride app in Tbilisi and costs very little. The Tbilisi metro runs on a card. Roads to Kazbegi can close in winter snow.
🍽️ Best Restaurants
Georgian food is a highlight and portions are large. Khinkali dumplings cost ₹40–₹60 each; khachapuri cheese bread ₹250–₹450; a full supra spread with wine ₹800–₹1,500. Vegetarians are exceptionally well served — badrijani, lobio, pkhali and mushroom dishes are staples rather than afterthoughts. Homemade wine is offered generously and is stronger than it tastes.

Tbilisi: Old Town for atmosphere, Vera and Vake for quieter modern flats. Kazbegi: Stepantsminda guesthouses with mountain views. Kakheti: winery guesthouses in Sighnaghi. Prices are low — good central apartments run ₹2,500–₹4,500.
🛡️ Safety & Travel Tips
One of the safest countries in the region, with very low crime and famously hospitable people. Practical cautions: mountain roads are narrow with aggressive overtaking, stray dogs are common (though usually tagged and vaccinated), and the Russian-occupied regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia must not be approached. Winter driving to Kazbegi requires snow tyres and sometimes closes entirely.
