Things to do in Qatar
Our picks, with what each one costs and how long it takes.
Souq Waqif
A restored market of spice, textile and falcon shops with Levantine restaurants and shisha courtyards. Comes alive after 19:00; the falcon souq and hospital are free to visit.
Check tickets & tours →Museum of Islamic Art
I. M. Pei's limestone cube on its own island, holding 1,400 years of Islamic art. The building alone justifies the trip; the top-floor view back at the skyline is the best in Doha.
Check tickets & tours →Inland Sea desert safari
Dune bashing south to Khor Al Adaid, where the Gulf runs directly into the desert — one of very few places on earth where that happens. Half-day and full-day options.
Check tickets & tours →National Museum of Qatar
Jean Nouvel's interlocking desert-rose discs, telling Qatar's story from pearl diving to gas. Immersive films rather than glass cases; better with children than it sounds.

Katara Cultural Village
A purpose-built cultural quarter with an amphitheatre, mosques, galleries and a public beach. Free to wander, and the best place to see Qatari architecture up close.

🚌 Transportation
The Doha Metro is new, immaculate and very cheap, with free feeder buses covering the last mile — a day pass costs around ₹150. Karwa taxis and Uber fill the gaps. Doha is compact and most sights sit near a Metro station. The desert requires an organised 4x4 tour. Qatar Airways offers free or heavily discounted stopover hotels, which makes Doha unusually cheap to add to a longer journey.
🍽️ Best Restaurants
Souq Waqif is the best eating in the city, with Levantine, Iranian and Qatari restaurants at ₹600–₹1,200 a head. Indian food is abundant and cheap in the Industrial Area and around Al Mansoura. Try machboos and karak chai, the sweet spiced tea sold at roadside stalls for ₹20. Alcohol is available only in hotel bars and is expensive.
🏨 Best Hotels
West Bay for business hotels and skyline views, Souq Waqif for heritage-style boutique rooms in the middle of the action, The Pearl for marina apartments, Msheireb for modern downtown. Rates drop sharply outside the winter season.
🛡️ Safety & Travel Tips
Among the safest countries in the world; solo travel is unproblematic. Legal norms mirror the Gulf: modest dress in public (shoulders and knees covered), no public affection, alcohol only in licensed venues, and severe drug penalties. Photographing government buildings or people without permission causes trouble. Summer heat is extreme — May to September is genuinely inhospitable outdoors.
