About Singapore

Singapore is the easiest first international trip with children: safe, spotless, English-speaking and compact enough that five days covers Sentosa, the zoo, Gardens by the Bay and a hawker-centre food crawl without a long transfer. Budget carefully for ground costs, which are the highest in Southeast Asia.

Highlights

Gardens by the Bay and Marina Bay Sands; Sentosa and Universal Studios; Singapore Zoo and Night Safari; hawker centres; Jewel Changi

🚌 Transportation

The MRT is world-class: fast, spotless and reaching almost everything. Tap a contactless card or phone straight in — no ticket needed. A day of MRT travel costs under ₹200. Taxis and Grab are pricier than Southeast Asian norms. The city is compact enough that you will rarely need anything else. Changi to town takes 30 minutes by MRT.

🍽️ Best Restaurants

Hawker centres are the point of eating here: a plate of chicken rice, laksa or char kway teow costs ₹150–₹300 in surroundings that are inspected and safe. Little India and Tekka Centre serve outstanding South Indian food at low prices. Restaurant meals cost ₹1,200+, so hawker food is what keeps a Singapore trip affordable.

🏨 Best Hotels

Marina Bay for the icons and the views, Chinatown and Bugis for value and character, Orchard for shopping, Sentosa for families doing theme parks. Hotels are small and expensive; budget hostels and capsule hotels are well-run alternatives.

🛡️ Safety & Travel Tips

Extremely safe at any hour — Singapore has among the world's lowest crime rates. The caution here is legal strictness: fines apply for eating or drinking on the MRT, littering, and jaywalking; chewing gum is restricted; and drug offences carry the death penalty, which applies to trace amounts detected on arrival. Vaping is banned outright, including possession.
